Fall 2017
TELEVISION PRODUCTION 120
Lecture and Laboratory
This class ended up being more educational and fun than I had anticipated. At the beginning of the semester it seemed that what was expected from us was a bit too ambitious: producing, scripting and performing in three very distinctive programs. I was pleasantly surprised to see that with the right instruction and the appropriate guidance I was able to come up with quality ideas to meet all the required assignments.
The first assignment consisted of writing an essay based on a personal story, that was turned into a television script for a One-on-One Interview Style Show. I wrote the questions for a classmate who portrayed the role of the host and I played the guest in my own show.
For the second project, I had to produce and script a News Report on a topic that was of interest and related to Montgomery College students. I filmed and edited all the footage used as video roll-in for the story, including the interview.
Part of the third and final assignment was to pitch to the professor and the class a Game Show proposal, where the show’s objective was to help middle school children understand the importance of reading. Only the top 4 proposals were to be produced by the class. My idea was picked up and I got to work with a group of classmates who helped produced the show.
Apart from being responsible for the entire production of my own assignments, I also learned about other tasks required for television production. For example: camera operator, floor manager, audio and light director, assistant director, C.G. operator, among others.
Here are the results of my work throughout the semester. Although every show was filmed ‘live-to-tape’, I have enhanced and optimized them through post-production editing and by adding some After Effects composites, audio and sound effects.
